As i have not come to the end of a full year yet with my script (my members are all set to 365 days membership), what is the process when they actually finish their membership?
In other words, what step by step, is the process?

An expired account goes into the inactive users database after they expire.

sorry, i meant how do they stop that happening, do they click on a link in an email to give them access for another year, or if not, how would they go about making sure that they can stay a member?

Are they pay subscribers? Free access normally does not have expiration terms on them.

They are both pay and free, all my members get one year only.

They should simply re-register then if you have it set that accounts expire.

OK, well maybe in the next version, you could set some sort of auto register, where they simply click on a link in an email and they are fully registered again. Thus saving them from filling in the form again.
Would this be possible?

Good call. Could pass a query to the registration URL which auto-fills in their old data.

Good thanks, with that in mind, would it be possible only to hold their "old" data in the db for a limited amount of time (say 10 days), then after that, delete it. thus saving the db growing too big with info that is no longer required.
The account is sent to the inactive DB, so you still have the info. We'll probably add an auto cleanup feature down the road.
