Hello.
1) I currently have version 2.1 and would like to upgrade; however, I do not see how to get the upgrade without buying the software again. A search on the matter resulted in this
thread, which would seem to be a similar case for me (I cannot find the download for the upgrade in the client area). Any and all help is appreciated. Am I correct in assuming the 2.3 upgrade includes the 2.2 changes?
2) I am still developing my site and trying to determine the best setup for it. I have not tried this yet, but would it be possible (and would it be wise) to install the software to the root directory (e.g. "mydomain.com/register.php" instead of "mydomain.com/software_subfolder/register.php")?
3) Is it possible and safe to rename "admin.php" to something more private just as long as it matches in the "Admin URL / Address" field in the Program Settings?
Thanks.
Hello.

If you are within 6 months of your original purchase date the 2.3 download is availabe in your client area:
http://www.i2-services.com/orders/client_area.php
2) I am still developing my site and trying to determine the best setup for it. I have not tried this yet, but would it be possible (and would it be wise) to install the software to the root directory (e.g. "mydomain.com/register.php" instead of "mydomain.com/software_subfolder/register.php")?
This is your call. You can install it in the root. Or for example .com/members/
Protected area being another name:
IE: .com/secure/ --- .com/login/
3) Is it possible and safe to rename "admin.php" to something more private just as long as it matches in the "Admin URL / Address" field in the Program Settings?
You're right on here. You can rename admin.php to any name you wish.
Thank you for your help.
I found the v2.3 download through the "View Your Licenses" link.
A few more quick questions.
If I decided to change "admin.php" to let's say "amazingly_secure_admin.php", what would be the best manner of making this change? Would I just load the "admin.php" in my browser, rename the file on the server, change the value in the "Admin URL / Address" field, and then click "save"? Or upload a duplicate version of "admin.php" that has been renamed to the new name and have the "Admin URL / Address" field in "admin.php" point to the new one before deleting "admin.php" from the server? Would it still work if it was in its own subdirectory (e.g. "installed_folder/private/amazingly_secure_admin.php")?
I ask because it would seem to me that, if I changed the value in the "Admin URL / Address" field to point to a file that did not yet exist, it might get confused once I clicked "save" and it reloads the "admin.php" file. I don't what to mess anything up and have to reinstall.
Also, in the readme it says:
5) Now Set writable / 777 (unix) permissions on the 2 folders:
/data/
/templates_c/
/attachments/
What should be the rights on the other files and folders? I assume that the files and folders inside the 777 folders should have 777 as well, correct?
Michael,
The process of renaming admin.php does not really matter.
(1) Change admin.php to new_admin.php
(2) Access http:// URL to new_admin.php
(3) Go to setup options and set the new URL
/data/ --- /templates_c/ -- /attachments/ should have no sub-folders. Other folders require no
permission changes.
Thanks for your help (even with my dumb questions).
In my FTP program it looked like perhaps it changed all folders and files to have 777 rights when I changed those directories to 777, and I just wanted to make certain that I have not compromised the security of my site.
You can change all the folders to 755 - leave 777 for /attachments / - /templates_c/ -- /data/
