I see a link in the control panel that allows an upgrade. i have a free area and a paid area, but when i click on that link, it tells me
"No account upgrade options at this time."
am i doing something wrong here?
This area is for the authorize.net & linkpoint merchant accounts credit card accounts. We'll be introducing PayPal in the membership type options in the next release.
What you can do is either change that link within the /interface/ templates to a page with your paypal purchase/ upgrade button on it instead of the upgrade URL it currently has.
Or place your paypal buy now / subscription button code within the upgrade template in the /interface/ folder.

Was this ever incorporated or do we still copy and paste the paypal button code into the upgrade page?

Yes PayPal.com is in the gateway area of membership types. You paste your paypal code in there and it shows up during registration or upgrade area.
